Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that creates negative pressure on the surface of the skin and attaches glass or plastic jars to specific acupuncture points to stimulate and promote the circulation of Qi and blood, to regulate the body and promote health. Cupping therapy is practiced in many countries and considered a natural remedy.

In cupping therapy, a fire source is usually ignited in the jar to cause the air in the jar to expand with heat and contract with cold, and then quickly attach the mouth of the jar to the surface of the skin to generate negative pressure inside the jar and absorb the skin. There are also modern cupping devices that use suction pumps or mechanical devices to create a negative pressure effect.

The negative pressure effect of cupping can cause hyperemia of the skin and tissues, promote blood circulation and lymphatic flow, increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients, and accelerate the elimination of metabolic waste. It can also regulate the balance of Qi and blood in the body, relieve muscle pain, and relieve physical fatigue and tension by stimulating acupuncture points and related meridians.

Cupping therapy is usually used to treat muscle pain, arthritis, cervical spondylosis, low back pain, cold, bronchitis and other diseases. It is also used in beauty treatments to improve skin quality and promote beauty in the body.

Health benefits of Cupping therapy: include increases circulation, encourages tissues to release toxins, reduces anxiety, reduce stretch marks and scars, improve varicose veins and spider veins, clear congestion and help treat asthma, clear colon blockages and aid digestion.

Effect of cupping :

  • Promote circulation: Cupping will cause congestion, blood stasis and vasodilation of the skin, which can speed up blood circulation, or increase metabolism if there is sweating.
  • Pain relief: The superficial muscles and fascia will be pulled and pulled during cupping. Together with the enhancement of blood circulation, the combined effect can relieve fascia adhesion, soft tissue pain, and relieve muscle stiffness.
  • Improve immunity: Negative pressure caused by cupping can cause local congestion, blood stasis, and microvascular bleeding. The hemolysis phenomenon produced in the middle will strengthen the phagocytic ability of the immune system and produce health care functions for the body.

It should be noted that the following points should be paid attention to when applying cupping therapy:

  • Since cupping produces a strong negative pressure effect, it should be avoided when the skin has cuts, bruises, burns, etc.
  • After cupping, round red or purple bruises may be left on the skin. This is a normal reaction and usually subsides within a few days. But for people with special circumstances or sensitive skin, caution should be exercised.
  • Because cupping may cause some irritation to the skin, excessive cupping or prolonged cupping should be avoided, so as not to cause discomfort or damage the skin.
